Word clock

everytime i connect my word clock out from the mixer to sync ext in of the denon cd player the cd player freezes and the track stops playing if i use a converter between the cd player and the mixer the cd is playing but there is no sound coming out of my monitors, on my mixer there is an error message: sync error slot! how can i go about solving this problem....
